Reminds me of a baseball manager going into the middle to late innings and working his bullpen and bench players.

Pulls the starting pitcher so he can get a left-handed reliever in to get a big out. Then immediately goes back to reliever #2 who is right-handed.

Looks odd to a casual fan. Why pull southpaw when he could still pitch to more batters? He isn't being pulled because he's tired or doesn't have the stuff. He's being pulled because he did the job that the manager wanted him to do, and now it's time for a different job.
