Jesus was born in the spring, supposedly during the census issued by Caesar Augustus while Quirinius was governor of Syria and Herod the Great issued the decree for every male under 2 to be slaughtered because of the prophecy of Jesus being the King of the Jews. Josephus says that Herod died in 4AD and the census was conducted in 6AD.
