Iran FURY rising: Seething steelworkers continue to protest in defiance of CALLOUS regime

FURIOUS Iranian steelworkers in the city of Ahvaz in oil-rich Khuzestan province, southwest Iran, are continuing to strike in defiance of President Hassan Rouhani’s brutal regime.

The disenfranchised Iranians were demanding their salaries, which have been unpaid for months, improvement of work conditions and other fundamental rights.

Workers, being threatened by repressive forces, said they would continue their demonstrations until the release of those arrested.

The disillusioned workforce from different parts of Iran expressed their solidarity with Ahvaz workers and called for the immediate release of the detainees.

The official Iranian Resistance movement - National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) - saluted the brave and adamant workers of the city.

With Eye on China, Germany Shields Strategic Firms Against Takeovers

Germany toughened rules on Dec.19 for non-EU share purchases or acquisitions of companies that are part of its critical infrastructure, amid growing disquiet about takeovers by Chinese firms.

The new rules allow the government greater review powers in the defense, high-tech and infrastructure sectors, including utilities and telecoms providers, for media companies.

Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinet decided to lower the threshold where reviews apply to foreign purchase offers of 10% of such strategic companies, down from 25% now.

Germany and other EU states have voiced growing concern as Chinese companies have bought up, or purchased controlling stakes in, high-tech firms, airports and harbors.

The Venezuelan exodus is no longer just a regional crisis

Last month, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR and the International Organization of Migration IOM estimated the number of Venezuelans fleeing their country at 3 million. The global extent of the Venezuelan exodus is further confirmed by an unprecedented increase in the number of asylum applications filed by Venezuelans around the world. As it turns out, since the beginning of Venezuela’s economic crisis in 2015 and until 2017, the number of asylum applications lodged by Venezuelans increased exponentially: more than 7000 percent in Mexico; 2500 percent in Brazil; 1700 percent in Spain; 800 percent in the EU; 800 percent in Chile; 700 percent in Costa Rica; and nearly 500 percent in United States.
