You have to understand the original sin of Adam and Eve in Eden. The actual meaning of "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" is better understood by putting it thus: "the ability to determine, autonomously, what is good and what is evil." This is a Creator only right which is why Satan tempted Eve byu telling her they would be "as gods" if they ate from the fruit of the tree of knowledge.
When a society and/or its lawmakers decide they have the right to determine what is good and what is evil, without reference to what God has commanded, trouble inevitably ensues.
Why should you or I be beholden to laws made by what we believe to be evil lawmakers, although they may call themselves good? Or, why should a majority or consensus have the right to judge between good and evil and impose their views on all?
Either we return to God's laws for humanity, and willingly agree as a nation to be bound by them in all civil affairs, or we will forever be subjected to whatever laws those who hold the reins of power choose to impose on us by force.
It's all there - in the Bible. But you will need a humble heart, willing to learn, and God's Spirit to help your understanding.
