Their "life of hell" was created by the British! In much the same way our Native Americans have been robbed of their lands and heritage in the name of cultural "superiority". I suspect the Aborigines were in touch with their environment and spirituality to a far greater degree than most European cultures have ever been. The Europeans could not cross the "Great Desert" of Australia because the land is so hostile . . . but the Aborigines used to do it as a matter of course, finding food and water where there was none. And remember the first "settlers" sent to Australia were prisoners . . . NOT known for their humanitarian standards!
