I see what you're saying, even if I don't see it as very likely that President Trump would be as weak as Macron, considering their opposite popularity trends. Perhaps if there were to be no funding for the wall, Trump would be weakened. I still think 2018 will turn out to be glorious.
The Yellow Vests movement has a lot popular support, I don't think it's fake / Soros-organized, but all sides are trying to hijack it (except Islam which has been strangely quiet). If the movement crystalizes around more direct democracy (trending that way), good can come out of it without Macron having to step down. But he is fighting it. His handlers (EU/UN/Islam/…) won't tolerate a loss of control at this time.
There is genuine fear of the People in Macron. He sees himself as a monarch and he knows how we French have been in the past. He just increased the salary of police officers, thinking they can be bought into keeping the People submissive for him. I don't think many will stand for tyranny.
Expect protests to resume in January.
We'll see what happens then.
Pray for the French if you are so inclined.
The open letter accusing Macron of treason was signed by a dozen retired generals, out of more than 5000, plus 1 (one) active general (out of 300, IIRC), plus a former minister.
There is very little support behind a coup, that can be publicly expressed.
As for the police, they will follow the government's orders, up to a point. Law enforcement personnel hate being used as a tool of tyranny. But so far that the orders they have received.
