British Special Forces Regain Control of Hijacked Ship Off UK Coast

Four stowaways found on the Italian 71,000-tonne ship Grande Tema in the Thames Estuary threatened its crew and demanded to be taken to the coast, The Sun newspaper reported Saturday.

The ships's crew have had to lock themselves in the vessel's bridge for safety, media report said.

UK Police said they did not think the incident was piracy or terrorism related. "We have received no reports that anyone has been harmed and don’t believe they are at risk. We are not currently treating this as either a hostage, piracy or terror-related incident," Essex Police said as quoted by the Sun.

According to Reuters, the suspects were believed to have boarded the vessel in Nigeria and had demanded to be taken to the English coast, threatening the Grande Tema's crew with iron bars.

UK Police said Saturday its special operation to regain control of a cargo ship in the Thames Estuary is over and that the vessel has been secured and four men were detained after the completion of the operation.

Partial Government Shutdown Will Begin at Midnight

A partial government shutdown at midnight ET is a sure thing since the House has adjourned until noon Saturday.

The Senate got to work just after noon on Friday to vote on a bill that passed the House Thursday night 217-185 which included $5 billion in border wall funding.

McConnell rejected using the nuclear option to pass the bill with 51 votes because he didn’t have enough support to change the Senate rule which currently requires 60 votes.

The Senate advanced the vote to the floor Friday evening, however negotiations on a new package including all seven appropriations bills is still ongoing.

President Trump dug in his heels and refused to sign the bill unless it give him the border wall funding he asked for.

Earlier Friday, the President blamed the Democrats for the impending shut down in a tweet.
