Gigantism
Pituitary gigantism is a relatively rare disorder characterized by increased hGH release before epiphyseal fusion is complete (usually in individuals under 10 years of age). It results in increased growth of long bones and taller stature while maintaining normal body proportions. Epiphyseal fusion is also delayed: levels of hGH suppress gonadotropin secretion. By definition, a giant is someone whose height is over three standard deviations from the population's average height (currently: total body height over 213 cm/7 ft).
