The Fed controls interest rates, but only after considering market conditions. Right now we are in a cyclical down cycle for bonds so naturally yields/interest rates will be higher. If anyone thinks if we get rid of the Fed we can just set rates wherever we want them, you may want to investigate the term “bond vigilante”.
