Maybe countertops, sinks and toilets were never installed, or taken out (sold) before the houses burnt down…
Think about this:

People were wondering why the burnt houses had no marble countertops left, no sinks, no toilets.
If you would know that houses would burn someday, you would sell off everything expensive, before houses would burn.
This would be an explanation, why these countertops, sinks, etc. weren't found after the huses were burnt to the ground…
