The swing between under and over parenting is also pretty conclusive. So, Gen X'ers were allowed to do what they wanted because they're parents were smothered as kids. Now, the kids of Gen Xer's are being smothered because Gen X were allowed to run wild and they don't want the same thing to happen to their own kids. The parenting norm basically flips every other generation on average. Hope that makes sense.
