Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit to Canadian troops deployed as part of the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Mali, he said on Saturday.

"The men and women of the @CanadianForces make immense sacrifices to serve our country and keep us safe. Today I visited with them in Mali, bringing the thanks of Canadians for all their hard work. Thank you to everyone at Camp Castor for everything you do, and merry Christmas!" Trudeau tweeted.

The premier was accompanied by Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan and Chief of the Defense Staff, General Jonathan Vance, a statement from his office said.

Trudeau also met with his Malian counterpart Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga, his office said.

What if a video existed that showed a prominent State Department VIP on the roof of the Republican Palace in Baghdad receiving, um, pleasure of an oral nature from another State Department officer not his wife, or even his journalist mistress of the time? What if that video has been passed around among Marine Security Guards at the Embassy to the point where it is considered “viral” with many copies made? What if the Deputy Chief of Mission, hand in hand with the Diplomatic Security chief (RSO) at the time, decided that the whole thing needed to be swept under the rug and made to go away, at least until some blogger got a hold of it.

Would that count as poor judgement? What if it was published during his oft-delayed Congressional hearings?

My understanding is that there were simultaneous catastrophes, drought, volcano, etc – who's impact would usually be absorbed by neighbors until recovery – but this time there were no safety nets and eventually they all flooded Egypt. Like Italy when Libya broke for example.
