Hippies were betas who couldn't suck it up and realize they were never going to be a star, so they decided to change the rules. My opinion.
Most boomers did suck it up, though, didn't begrudge the alphas, and went about their lives as best they could, including working out the disruptions their service in 'Nam caused.
It wasn't worth dealing with hippies, especially if they had a little college in them. All thy'd do is ridicule people for being less educated than them.
Easiest thing, too, for boomers (hippie ones, too) coming out of a college was to get a teaching job. Many openings because of the boom, just a degree necessary in most places, and you got a draft deferment (ended in 70-71, I think).
Welp, and here we are. in retrospect, we probably should have gone serious Hard Hat on their ass like the ones in NYC did.
