Daniel 7 describes four empires/kingdoms. The last one described, it's made clear, is the kingdom that the antichrist will emerge from. People often assume that these are a succession of major empires. But if you examine the original text closely you'll find that they are contemporaneous. They are three that each had a portion of the world and a fourth that "devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet". At present, the entire world is clearly not ruled by four huge empires. And it would take a very long time for current situation to get to where it resembles the description (unless there is a big nuclear war, or something). So any of this is unlikely to happen during the lifetime of anyone alive today.
But that doesn't sell many books and DVDs.
Still have a long way to go. There isn't much territorial expansionism going on right now.
