That takes some explaining. There is the mundane "they learned it from aliens", which is true, on a certain level. But if you dig deeper, you then have to ask "who were these aliens?", and the answer is, they're us from the future!
You see life doesn't evolve to a humanoid shape looking like a human everywhere in the cosmos. This should be obvious. So when an "alien" shows up looking like a human, only with some minor modification (a "Star Trek alien"), then what you're looking at is a human!
But these humans "from the future" don't actually come from the future as such, they come from alternate timelines where humanity has DEvolved from the main timestream.
