Sea story from the earlier days of the "Wizards".at NRL
The Star Wars ABM system was proposed as three orbital regime constellations. GeoSync detections and tracking, MEO (12 hr) battle management, LEO kinetic kill. The Air Force came in with a proposal for three separate satellite control systems costing $!B each because "no one can fly three different orbital regimes as the same time."
It turned out that NRL "wizards" had been doing this for some time with their COMET software. In three months, and for about $90K, the "wizards" demonstrated live simultaneous control of satellites in the three orbital regimes. Then the Soviets gave up.
During the demonstration, several of the networked DEC computers failed (we were in an AF IBM facility). but the automatic reconfiguration software built into COMET kept the mission alive. Proving once again that, "No weapon formed against you will prosper" when you walk with Abba Father YHWH.
