I think we were lied to. I saw one of these, and they said the energy consumption was 15% of what's used with gas. That does not match the story about "it requires more energy in the end, which comes from fossil fuel anyway usually."
Add to that there is arguably a Moore's law equivalent for batteries and it becomes a no brainer, imo. Every 10 years or so the energy capacity of a given battery size doubles, or, the size of batteries are cut in half.
For those that don't know, Moore's law is the observation that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles about every two years.
That's what makes the latest and greatest computer part affordable to us poorfags within 5 years, and obsolete in 10.
Apply this to batteries, and imagine upgrading your car in a similar manner.
