Mexico - "Sicarios" Kill Four Police Officers In Leaked Ambush Video

A cowardly group of Mexican hitmen, also known in Spanish as "Sicarios", lay in wait for a Mexico state police truck. In two leaked videos, several of the gunmen can be heard talking and laughing as they hide behind rocks overlooking a narrow road below with mountains to either side. The area is about 75 kilometers southwest of the state capital, Toluca.

The ambush was set up perfectly to draw the police into a fatal funnel with a mountain to either side of the road leaving no escape. One of the gunmen can be seen setting up a cell phone to film the ambush while others lay behind rocks overlooking the narrow mountain road below.

The shooting occurred on October 28 in Almoloya de Alquisiras and claimed the lives of four officers while a fifth managed to escape. The cowardly gunmen are from the "Familia Michoacana", according to the El Universal, the YouTube channel that published edited versions of the videos online.

One of the gunmen can be heard saying at the beginning of the video, "State police commander, we’re coming for you now." As the video pans to show other gunmen, the narrator says, "We’re going to kill the state police here because they’re sticking their noses into our business."

The gunmen are perched up about 20 or 30 yards above the road and using solid rocks as cover. Once the unsuspecting truck enters the ravine, the gunmen all open fire with multiple automatic firearms. The officers likely had no idea where the fire was coming from because of how elevated their position was.

The SUV then tumbles off the road into a shallow ditch and flips onto its side. The shooting continues for 55 seconds. So far police have arrested at least one of the gunmen and the video is being used as evidence against him. Mexican state police say the video was leaked and they are investigating how it got online.

The draft law on the “sovereign Internet” was submitted to the State Duma on December 14. It might disrupt the Russian Internet while excessively expand Roskomnadzor’s authority to manage the communications industry, Kommersant reports. According to experts, telecom operators may spend more than 130 billion rubles ($2b) annually to compensate for possible issues.

Svyaz and IT, a working group of the Expert Council under the Government of the Russian Federation, said that at least 25 billion rubles will be spent at a time on research, creation of traffic exchange points, exercises and expansion of the companies controlled by Roskomnadzor. Besides, there will be extra burden on the telecom operators, and the compensation from the federal budget may reach 134 billion rubles annually. One of the bill initiators, Senator Lyudmila Bokova, states that the expenses in question are already provided for in the Digital Economy project. In addition, the project will be implemented using the budget funds allocated for Roskomnadzor.

Experts also note that there is a number of impracticable requirements in the “sovereign Internet” project, such as the part where the telecom operators have to give a complete map of their coverage and traffic routing to Roskomnadzor, which is impossible because the network is constantly updated.

The "sovereign Internet" draft law refers to amendments to the laws "On Communications" and "On Information".

Hemisphere remains a prime example of how private corporations and the government team up to help themselves to our digital lives, and the lengths they will go to to cover their tracks.

This is an insane article and should be brought to the attention of everyone who cherishes their freedom and abhors collusion between Big Tech and Big Government.

The EFF, after years of concerted efforts, has finally succeeded in suing the DEA, resulting in the release of numerous records concerning the “Hemisphere” surveillance program.

The government, on the other hand, only succeeded in dragging out the fake secrecy.

In late 2013, right as the world was already reeling from the Snowden revelations, the New York Times revealed that the AT&T gives federal and local drug enforcement investigators access to a phone records surveillance system that dwarfs the NSA’s. Through this program, code-named Hemisphere, police tap into trillions of of phone records going back decades.

It’s been five long years of privacy scandals, and Hemisphere has faded somewhat from the headlines since it was first revealed. That was long enough for officials to rebrand the program “Data Analytical Services,” making it even less likely to draw scrutiny or stick in the memory.

Here’s a refresher on how it works:

“Through the Hemisphere program, AT&T assists federal and local law enforcement in accessing and analyzing its massive database of call detail records (CDRs)—information on phone numbers dialed and received, as well as the time, date, and length of call and in some instances location information. More specifically, Hemisphere has access to telecommunication “switches” operated by AT&T that guide telephone calls. Because other providers use AT&T “switches” for their calls, the database contains call detail records regardless of carrier. The database has records concerning local, long distance, cellular, and international calls.”
