Ruth Bader Ginsburg released from hospital after surgery for lung cancer

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery to remove two cancerous growths from her left lung, according to the Supreme Court. Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said Ginsburg, 85, was released from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York on Tuesday and is recuperating at home.

Ginsburg had a pulmonary lobectomy Friday after the nodules were discovered in her left lung in November. The growths were discovered while Ginsburg was undergoing tests after she fell and fractured three ribs. While the modules were found to be malignant, thoracic surgeon Valerie Rusch said there was “no evidence of any remaining disease” after her surgery.

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton in 1993, Ginsburg has never missed an argument. Ginsburg has had two previous bouts with cancer — in 1999 she was treated for colon cancer, and in 2009 she was treated for pancreatic cancer.

Same question I had, although if you look at articles written about her she supposedly has an extreme exercise routine..that the reporters said they would find difficult to keep up with. I also wonder how she had been cured of pancreatic cancer in 99? For most people during that time, it was a death sentence.

DHS Calls CDC To Investigate Growing Number Of Sick Migrants

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is requesting that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) investigate the cause of the growing number of sick migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, officials revealed to reporters Wednesday morning. A DHS official told reporters that “literally dozens” of sick migrants are being transported to hospitals across the border each day and that growing numbers of children showing illness are present in border patrol custody. “We’re doing dozens of hospital trips every single day with children that have fevers or manifest other medical conditions,” CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan told CBSNews Wednesday morning.

An official also told reporters that DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is requesting that Mexican authorities also investigate the living conditions of migrant holding camps across the border to see if that is the source of illness. DHS officials revealed their concern during a phone call to discuss the plight of an 8-year-old Guatemalan child who died in border patrol custody Monday. The child’s death came just days after DHS also announced the death of a 7-year-old girl who died in mid-December. The children’s deaths have brought intense scrutiny on the holding conditions and procedures of DHS, which says they are simply overburdened by thousands of daily illegal border crossings. A DHS official noted that, prior to these two incidents, border patrol had not lost a child in custody in over a decade. This was remarkable, they claimed, given the hundreds of thousands who have passed through its cells in the interim period.

13-Year-Old Girl Among Those Charged With MS-13-Style Murder

Five suspects arrested and charged with a brutal MS-13-style murder in New York City include a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. The suspects were reportedly charged with the murder of 23-year-old Ian Cruz, who was found dead with several bullet wounds to the head on Dec. 15, wearing only socks and underwear in Queens’ Bayswater Point State Park.

According to New York Post sources, the girl had only been with the group for a few weeks, yet allegedly played a critical role in the murder: Sources said the teenage girl messaged Cruz online and got him to come meet her for a tryst in the woods sometime between Dec. 15 and 16. Instead, a group of four gangbangers — the girl included — pumped four rounds of .22-caliber ammunition into his head. Authorities also think the girl could have been used in a similar fashion for the murder of 17-year-old Harold Sermeno. Police think both Sermeno and Cruz may have been thought to be members of a rival gang. “I heard she was heavily involved,” said neighbor Matthew Woodard. “You don’t expect a 13-year-old kid to be caught up in something like that.”

The three non-minors arrested included Carlos Guerra, 18, Yonathan Sanchez, 22, and Elmer Guttierez, 18, according to ABC6. All five shared a bedroom where the arrests were made and a .22 caliber pistol and 900 rounds of ammunition were confiscated by police. In addition to the second-degree murder charge, the suspects were also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Surveillance video taken at the crime scene linked those charged to Cruz’s murder, said police, who added that they are investigating the murder as potentially gang-related. Authorities believe the murder has all the earmarks of an MS-13 style killing, ABC6 reported. All suspects are being held without bail except Guttierez, whose bail was set at $500,000.
