Cosmic rays also increase volcanism.

The mechanism is capture by earth's mass.

The energy is absorbed by minerals in the crust and magma, that contain bound water molecules, causing the water to release. The magma becomes a little bit more frothy, causing an increase in pressure. Hence, an increase in volcanism during periods when solar activity is weak with concommitant reduced geomagnetic field.

When solar activity is strong, the geomagnetic field is strong, deflecting a portion of the incoming cosmic rays.
