El Paso, TX - More than 500 additional migrants are to be released by ICE in El Paso on Wednesday, said Ruben Garcia with the Annunciation House.

Garcia told ABC-7 he was notified by Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to expect 520 migrants.

Annunciation House is a shelter that helps migrants while they reunite with families or sponsors across the U.S.

Garcia also said he has been working with ICE to work up plans on where the Migrants will be placed, and to what other shelters they will be taken to.

Over the last four days, more than 600 migrants were released into the streets of Downtown El Paso.

Garcia said those releases are due to a CBP Policy change made on October 23rd.

The policy, according to Garcia, simply states that if ICE has "more people to drop off, then local shelters and agencies can receive and house, then ICE will drop those migrants off in the street." Garcia said that explains what happened this week.

Garcia told ABC-7 that he has been working with ICE over the last couple of months and has been receiving about 2,000 migrants a week. Garcia said that it has been a very orderly release process, with all migrants being placed in a shelter or housed.

Garcia told ABC-7 that as of today, the orderly release process is back on track, and they are placing the 520 migrants directly into shelters.

ABC 7 has reached out to Customs and Border Protection and ICE but because of the partial government shutdown, we have not been able to get a response. https://www.kvia.com/news/top-stories/over-500-more-migrants-to-be-released-by-ice/952447063
