Arab Spring 2.0? Protests after Tunisian journalist calls for revolt, sets himself on fire

A journalist in Tunisia – the first country to face the Arab Spring – has set himself on fire, triggering a protest against unemployment and poverty. The case resembles the start of the 2011 Western-hailed revolt.

“For our people who have no means of subsistence, today I start a revolution,” journalist Abderrazak Zorgui told his audience in the poverty-stricken town of Kasserine.

Calling for people to rise up against poverty and poor living conditions, Zorgui then set himself on fire, invoking the well-known self-immolation of street vendor Mohamed Bouazizi in late 2010.

Zorgui was soon pronounced dead at a local hospital, and his funeral service quickly snowballed into violent protests in Kasserine and other towns. Kasserine, home to 76,000 people, saw clashes between stone-throwing protesters and police who deployed tear gas to disperse crowds.

Tunisia’s Interior Ministry said several arrests were made in connection with the protests and property damage. Meanwhile in Kasserine, local authorities said an investigation into the death of Zorgui is under way.

BREAKING News Out Of SAN FRANCISCO

Puerto Rico Resident Charged In Alleged Multimillion-Dollar Scheme To Defraud Owners Of Cryptocurrency

SAN FRANCISCO- A federal grand jury has indicted Jerry Ji Guo, charging him with eight counts of wire fraud in a scheme to defraud customers of cryptocurrencies, announced U.S. Attorney Alex G. Tse and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge John F. Bennett.

According to the indictment filed November 15, 2018, Guo, 31, whose last residence was San Juan, Puerto Rico, devised a scheme to obtain cash and cryptocurrency from victims by convincing them he would provide marketing and publicity services as a consultant. Guo convinced potential customers to forward up-front fees and retainers by making false statements about his experience and credentials as consultant. Guo allegedly provided no consulting services and instead orchestrated the unauthorized transfer of cash and cryptocurrency out of supposed “escrow” accounts into accounts he controlled.

Did Trump Put the Deep State on Notice with Syrian Withdrawal?

The reason so many people continue to misread the actions of US President Donald Trump is because they tend to confuse him with the actions and behaviors of past US administrations, where indiscriminate death and destruction was America’s calling card around a shell-shocked planet. Although certainly erratic in his actions, Trump thus far has been predictable on one score: keeping the powers-that-be guessing.

Last week, Donald Trump, acting unilaterally and within full power as Commander-in-Chief, derailed the Deep State’s plans for yet another disastrous regime change operation, announcing the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.

Who Was Secretly Behind America’s Invading and Occupying Syria?

The invasion and occupation of Syria by tens of thousands of jihadists who were recruited from around the world to overthrow Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, was financed mainly by US taxpayers and by the world’s wealthiest family, the Sauds, who own Saudi Arabia and the world’s largest oil company, Aramco. America’s international oil companies and major think tanks and ‘charitable’ foundations were also supportive and providing propaganda for the operation, but the main financing for it came from America’s taxpayers, and from the Saud family and from the Government that they own.

Vatican tribunal hands down first money-laundering verdict

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican’s criminal tribunal has convicted an Italian builder of using his accounts in the Vatican bank to launder money, and sentenced him to 2½ years in prison.

The Vatican press office said the Dec. 17 decision, announced Thursday, marked the first time the Vatican court had handed down a money-laundering verdict since the city state criminalized the offense in 2010 as part of its financial reform efforts.

Italian police had placed Angelo Proietti under house arrest in 2016 as part of an investigation into the alleged fraudulent bankruptcy of his construction firm, Edil Ars Srl, which had done contract work for various Vatican entities.

The Vatican cooperated in the investigation after flagging a suspicious transaction in one of Proietti’s Vatican bank accounts in 2013 and seizing 1 million euros. The money was ordered confiscated by the court.

The Vatican held up the verdict as “fundamentally important” in its efforts to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, efforts that were launched in 2009 when the Vatican entered into a monetary agreement with the European Union.

Handcuffed for Homeschooling? Paperwork Dispute Gets Ugly

A school system in Massachusetts is proving to be malicious, incompetent, or maybe both.

Of course, we suspected that already. But the latest example comes from a lawsuit from a woman who pulled her 8-year-old son from Worcester Public Schools to homeschool him last January.

Josilyn Goodall is suing the Worcester School Committee, Superintendent Maureen Binienda, and the state Department of Children and Families after police entered her home, handcuffed her, and arrested her over what amounted to a paperwork dispute.

According to the lawsuit, Goodall is seeking unspecified compensatory damages for the violation of her Constitutional rights and for the “mental pain and suffering” inflicted upon her and her son.

The lawsuit details Goodall’s multiple attempts to contact the Superintendent after filing paperwork in January saying she was going to homeschool her son. She said she never got a response to any of her phone calls or emails.

In Massachusetts, parents who wish to homeschool their children must submit an education plan to the superintendent of the local school system for approval. However, according to Care and Protection of Charles (1987), the court case upon which homeschool legal precedent was established, the burden of proof is on the school to show that the homeschool program is insufficient.

Why Are the Feds Subsidizing Baby Formula Companies?

Last month, when a host of media outlets began talking about the Trump administration’s alleged “battle against breastfeeding,” few of them — if any — mentioned the fact that the US federal government continues to subsidize the baby formula industry to the tune of billions of dollars.

A survey of articles — including The New York Times, Foreign Policy, Politico, and The Guardian — on this supposed conspiracy to favor the formula industry did not mention even once that the US’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) has been a significant source of income for formula companies for decades.

For example, in 2004, government spending on the program totaled nearly 4.8 billion dollars, mostly dedicated to the distribution and subsidization of baby formula. By 2016 this total had increased to 6.5 billion. As of 2014, more than 8 million Americans were covered by the program.

While US and British pundits complain that the US refuses to sign off on UN regulations that bar advertising and free samples from formula companies, they ignore the fact that the US government is “provid[ing] more than half of the formula that is used in the US.“

JP Morgan Chase to pay $135m to settle ADRs charges

JPMorgan Chase & Co will pay over $135 million (€119 million) to settle charges it mishandled so-called “pre-released” American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced on Wednesday.

The bank is the eighth institution to face SEC charges on such a practice, according to the regulator. Its investigation into American Depositary Receipts abuse is ongoing, it said.

The commission added that improperly providing ADRs that are not supported by underlying foreign securities can create inappropriate short selling and dividend arbitrage. – Reuters

The Politics of Population Control

In a busy market, Chinese parents Pang Zhengdong and Hu Aizhen are handing out flyers in search of their missing three-year-old daughter, Pang Xiuting, who disappeared without a trace.

At first, nobody believed that something terrible could have occurred in their peaceful village in Guangxi province in southern China, where everyone knows each other. But the search for her has remained fruitless and all that’s left for the parents are their memories and baby photos of happier times.

“Kidnappings of little girls are not uncommon in China,” says Du Yin, who works for a relief organisation and knows a lot of despairing parents. Across China, there are already 200,000 volunteers searching for missing girls like Pang Xiuting.

“A son’s marriage is expensive … So parents have little girls kidnapped. They then raise a girl together with their son. And when they’ve reached adulthood, they are married to one another,” says Yin.

Trump Accidentally Reveals Secret SEAL Unit During Visit to Iraq

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made a surprise visit to Iraq to meet US servicemen stationed at the Ayn al-Asad Air Base. During the visit, Trump told reporters that he has no plans to withdraw US troops from Iraq, which he said could be used to attack the Daesh* terrorist group.

President Donald Trump has accidentally revealed typically secret details of a covert special operations unit after he posted a video on Twitter showing him talking and taking selfies with what appeared to be members of a US Navy SEALs team during his unannounced trip to Baghdad.

In the video, the special warfare forces are seen dressed in full battle gear and wearing night vision goggles.
