EMP: Not if, but when

The probability of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) in our lifetime is much higher than most Americans would assume, according to Dr. Peter Pry, the Executive Director of the EMP Task Force.

Pry explains there are three sources of EMP: the sun, nuclear weapons, and non-nuclear weapons.

The natural concern, he says, is “the once-in-a-hundred-year geomagnetic superstorm like the Carrington event in 1859.” A superstorm of this magnitude “would be extremely powerful – many times more powerful than the 1989 Hydro-Québec storm.”

The entire world would be affected, putting “electric grids and critical infrastructures” as well as “billions of lives” at risk. Pry believes it is “inevitable” that we will be struck by a Carrington-class geomagnetic storms, for “it’s not a question of if, but it’s a question of when will that happen.”

According to NASA, “the likelihood of such a catastrophic occurrence is 12% per decade, which means that possibly within our lives or no later than the lives of our grandchildren, we’re going to experience one of these things – and we are unprotected.” Emphasizing the reality of the situation, he says, “our electric grid and life-sustaining critical infrastructures, right now, are completely unprotected.”

Meadows: Many House GOPers Would Encourage Trump to Accept $2.5 Billion for Wall

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” House Freedom Caucus Chair Mark Meadows (R-NC) said the “vast majority” of House Republicans understand there might be a compromise on the amount of border wall funding, and “a number of Republican members” would encourage the president to accept a deal offering around $2.5 billion for wall funding.

Meadows said, “Certainly, the vast majority of Republican members of the conference understand that there may be a compromise between 5.7 billion and 1.6, or wherever the number may be. But as we’re looking at it, whether it’s 2.5 or 2.7, it doesn’t matter, Chuck Schumer has said no. The American people see that as a compromise. I see that as a compromise. And so, certainly, if that’s on the table, you would find a number of Republican members encouraging the president to go ahead and accept that.”

Shutdown: Democrats Confident Trump Will Crack

Democrats are said to be confident that they will win the shutdown over border security — that President Donald Trump will cave to their demands and sign a spending bill to re-open all federal government departments without receiving any funding for his border wall.

Politico reported Thursday evening that Democrats “are plotting ways to reopen the government while denying the president even a penny more for his border wall when they take power Jan. 3.”

They are basing that conclusion on the past behavior of Republican leaders when facing a swamp of negative media coverage about national monuments closed, paychecks delayed, and office doors shut. While Trump and the GOP leadership are putting on a brave face, the Democrats plan simply to pass a”continuing resolution” bill to re-open the government once they take control of the House, and pass it along to the Senate, daring Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) — long opposed to shutdowns — to refuse. “[T]hey’re confident that their political leverage will only increase the longer the shutdown lasts — a notion that some GOP leaders agree with privately,” Politico adds.
