Not all microwaves will work as a Faraday cage. Plastic outer housings will not work. You need the commercial style stainless steel types. Sailingfag here. Been hit by lightning offshore. Cheap ass microwave on my boat didn't protect handheld VHF, GPS or Sat Phone. Luckily I wasn't far offshore and in familiar cruising grounds.
