International security expert: “Sweden is heading for civil war”

International security adviser Olle Fjordgren sees Sweden as a runaway freight train heading for a rock wall.

“We have basically given up and the criminals have seized power. Right now we have nothing to oppose and I can’t see that we could reverse the development,” he tells news blog Ingrid & Maria.

Already 2013, Sweden was in a low-intensity civil war which the criminals were winning, according to Fjordgren. Now, five years later, they have won in many areas that he believes are rightly called no-go zones.

Political unwillingness to admit how bad things are, in combination with inability and ignorance, has led to Sweden being very close to becoming a failed state.

While the president worked during the holidays—including surprise trips with the first lady to greet U.S. troops in Iraq and Germany—anti-Trump “conservatives” worked hard on their laptops to warn Americans of impending doom for Trump’s presidency.

In an uncharitable Christmas Day screed, National Review senior editor Jonah Goldberg served up some flashbacks from his NeverTrump past to yet again warn that Trump’s presidency will “end poorly.” Goldberg again condemned Trump for his lack of character; again blasted Trump supporters for emulating his bellicose style; and again unleashed a litany of alleged offenses—such as the president’s “rants against the 1st Amendment”—as evidence of why Donald Trump is, like, the worst president ever.

Goldberg is lashing out lately: From his borderline-misogynistic diatribe against a female journalist who outed National Review for accepting donations from Google while possibly suppressing negative stories about the tech giant, to an attack on his NR colleague Andrew McCarthy (which eventually elicited an apology from Goldberg), he seems more unhinged than usual.

Which makes his lazy harangue about Trump’s name-calling and mean-spiritedness all the more ironic. Please, Jonah, tell us more about character and manners just days after you called a woman reporter an “idiot,” a “McCarthyite,” a “failed-actress-turned-faux journalist,” and a “MAGA infomercial hostess.”

Operation Golalde Seize over 3000 Weapons Aimed at the Dark Web

Operation Golalde launched by the Civil Guard in 2015 has reported success in its effort to dismantle weapon trade and organized crimes on the dark web. Over 3000 long and shot weapons secured for sale on dark web marketplaces have been seized with hundreds of suspects arrested, some of whom have been convicted.

The operation was launched by the Civil Guard Information Services after an appearance of automatic pistols on the internet for 2,100 euros, which were traced to a Gijón citizen, who was a well-known, notorious heroin consumer and dark web drug trafficker, Captain Carrillo Fernando, the Chief Head of Information of Asturias, explained.

The Civil Guard, a task force responsible for the control of firearms in Spain, in corroboration with the Armed Institute, launched the Comprehensive Plan for the Control of Firearms (PICAF) in 2015. The operation began on the right footing after 322 fully functional and active dark web weapons were seized with four arrests in an undercover investigation. Since the launch, a total of 3050 unsilenced weapons have been recovered and 295 suspects have been arrested.

Islamic State woman from Germany charged with war crimes after letting ‘slave’ girl, 5, die of thirst

German prosecutors on Friday announced war crimes charges against a female member of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group who let a five-year-old girl die of thirst in the scorching sun.

While living in then IS-occupied Mosul, Iraq, the 27-year-old German citizen identified only as Jennifer W. and her husband had bought the child as a household “slave” in 2015, said prosecutors.

“After the girl fell ill and wet her mattress, the husband of the accused chained her up outside as punishment and let the child die of thirst in the scorching heat,” they said in a statement.

“The accused allowed her husband to do so and did nothing to save the girl.”

Despite Donald Trump’s tough immigration talk, Latino support for the Republican Party remains steady

Pedro Gonzalez has faith in Donald Trump and his party.

The 55-year-old Colombian immigrant is a pastor at an evangelical church in suburban Denver. Initially repelled by Trump in 2016, he has been heartened by the president’s steps to protect religious groups and appoint judges who oppose abortion rights. More important, Gonzalez sees Trump’s presidency as part of a divine plan.

“It doesn’t matter what I think,” Gonzalez said of the president. “He was put there.”

Though Latino voters are a key part of the Democratic coalition, there is a larger bloc of reliable Republican Latinos than many think. And the Republican Party’s position among Latinos has not weakened during the Trump administration, despite the president’s rhetoric against immigrants and the party’s shift to the right on immigration.

ICE to release 500 more migrants in El Paso, marking the largest single day release

U.S. immigration authorities planned to release 500 migrants in El Paso by Wednesday evening, which would be the highest single-day figure in the city.

The release of migrants to shelters is common in El Paso, but advocates fear that the government may be dumping large numbers of immigrants on the streets to relieve overcrowding in the wake of the deaths of two children who were in Border Patrol custody.

Ruben Garcia, executive director of Annunciation House, an El Paso immigrant shelter that coordinates local assistance efforts for migrants, said immigrants would not be released to the streets on Wednesday, but instead will be placed directly into 11 temporary and permanent migrant shelters.

But earlier this week, ICE released hundreds of men, women and children at the Greyhound bus station in Downtown El Paso, leaving Garcia and others scrambling to find shelter for about 600 migrants beginning Sunday night and continuing through Christmas Day.

“I am really, really disappointed when my government does things like this,” Garcia said of mass releases earlier this week. “The bottom line is you don’t release families with young children to the streets.”

Silicon Valley researchers are attacking flying bloodsuckers in California’s Fresno County. It’s the first salvo in an unlikely war for Google parent Alphabet Inc.: eradicating mosquito-borne diseases around the world.

A white high-top Mercedes van winds its way through the suburban sprawl and strip malls as a swarm of male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes shoot out of a black plastic tube on the passenger-side window. These pests are tiny and, with a wingspan of just a few millimeters, all but invisible.

“You hear that little beating sound?” says Kathleen Parkes, a spokesperson for Verily Life Sciences, a unit of Alphabet. She’s trailing the van in her car, the windows down. “Like a duh-duh-duh? That’s the release of the mosquitoes.”

Jacob Crawford, a Verily senior scientist riding with Parkes, begins describing a mosquito-control technique with dazzling potential. These particular vermin, he explains, were bred in the ultra-high-tech surroundings of Verily’s automated mosquito rearing system, 200 miles away in South San Francisco. They were infected with Wolbachia, a common bacterium. When those 80,000 lab-bred Wolbachia-infected, male mosquitoes mate with their counterpart females in the wild, the result is stealth annihilation: the offspring never hatch.
