"Among the areas affected include Seattle, Washington and Salt Lake City, Utah. Several other states, including Idaho, Oregon, Arizona and Missouri, are also affected, local news has reported.
Many other police departments tweeted out alternative numbers for 911 in the event of an emergency.
Police in Boston, Massachusetts tweeted that their service was restored this morning."
The Ozarks (southwest Missouri apparently, you tell me localfags):
The counties impacted by an outage on Thursday included, at least, Barry, Christian, Dallas, Dade, Dent, Laclede, Stone and Taney.
A CenturyLink spokesperson says the company experienced a service disruption at the Jefferson City facilities due to an equipment failure.
"We know how important these services are to our customers. We dispatched a repair team and were able to restore all services by 1:18 p.m. Central Standard Time," CenturyLink Senior Communications Manager Michael Baker said.
The impact was widespread throughout the Ozarks region.
"It shut down the 911 trunks throughout most of Southwest Missouri. I think there was something like 650,000 people affected by it," Stone County 911 Executive Director Scott Williams said.
