Been that way for over 20 years. Around 2001 I read a job offer in the Paris area. Several companies were looking to automate all transactions at their motels, with computers…gasp…

Looked cool at first. Until I found out the rooms were painted concreate and the matresses were thin cheap affairs on top of a concrete base. Same with seats in front of the concrete desk. TV sealed behind bullet proof glass.

WTF? I thought. So I did some more checking, and I found out that the motels were in muslim neighborhoods that were no-man's lands for anyone not from there (so Indians from GB and all other Europeans, basically). Turns out the reason for the fantastic pay (2001 bad tech year), and accomodations in Paris, was due to local IT talent refusing to work in these areas. For the pay offered. Which is capped effectively, in France. So they shopped gigs around other European countries (mostly GB, Belgium) and got no bites. So it came here. I warned those I knew off of it.

So there's my sauce for the 'decades' I guess. Take it or leave it.
