It looks like that's what happened. Jr. bought that piece of crap Piper Saratoga like 3 weeks before. This, when he had his favorite kick-ass Cessna that he loved to fly and was dedicated to his dad. And if he wanted another plane, he could have bought a good one. Doesn't make any sense.
He had the proof and was about to come out with it before he "died." He said he was going to "bring the people who killed his dad to justice even if he had to bring down the government."
