The date is hand-written in. That means he wrote the letter some time ago, and they intentionally waited to publish it, dated, till now. Things are not what they seem.
People were right then, too. They don't do these things without a reason. It says nothing about the reason, just that there is one, and it likely matters (otherwise why do it that way?).
