Reading the book “Skunk Works” it was noted in there that Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin were and have always been in a battle w each other. L.M. Won the contract for the stealth fighter Have Blue F117. It pissed off some high ranking folks in the military that wanted the contract to go to their buddies at Northup. Fast forward to the B2 design.. the military brass who wanted Northrup to get stealth fighter, got the B2 awarded contract. Any time I see a story of a new piece of weapontry/aircraft/mil whatever.. it reminds me that not always are contracts awarded by merit. Alot is the fuckery of inside deals and handshakes over cigars and liquor in a smoke filled room someplace.
