USMC: Marine dies from gunshot wound while on duty at barracks in Southeast DC
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
A marine died from a gunshot shot while on duty at a Marine Barracks early Tuesday morning in Southeast Washington.
United States Marine Corps officials say the identity of the marine is not being released at this time until a next of kin is notified.
Metropolitan Police responded to the scene of the shooting and an investigation is underway.
Officials say the shooting was confined to the barracks and there is no threat to the public.
Following the incident, officials stated "Due to an unforseen tragedy at Marine Barracks Washington this morning, today's New Year's Serenade is cancelled."
