I wouldn't doubt that mainly because they're asking for Bitcoin. Anyone who could gather this data would know that bitcoin transactions can be traced easily enough. Now if they had chosen something like Monero or Zcash that might change things as those are privacy coins. So there is some plausibility to this argument.
