We know exactly what happen with MH17. Some trigger-happy Ukrainian separatists were give a mobile SAM battery and shot down the wrong airplane. We know because a phone call they made shortly after was intercepted:

I don't know this for a fact. But his background explains his site's slant. This doesn't discredit him for every thing. But I don't trust anything from ZH relating to Russia, especially when we have the phone calls form the people who shot that plane down that imply something different.
