There were massive threads on the sea peoples over on /pol/ like 2 or 3 years ago. The tldr of the threads came down to:

>the sea peoples employed a mercenary army

>after a while they had assembled a massive army that they divided into 3 divisions and overwhelmed every local force and raping and pillaging every town they came upon

>no individual nation had a military that was able to defend any more than their main cities

>it got so bad that some low king that was from the area of the hittites (and may have been a hittite but sources are inconclusive) went all around the mediterranean and central/eastern europe petitioning for nations to contribute men to a force to pursue these sea people

>half of the force went by sea and landed in israel/lebanon and the other went over land and they managed to catch the sea people with their pants down somewhere south of turkey in either lebanon or western syria

>they completely destroyed one of their 3 divisions and when the other 2 retreated they chased them all the way to fucking india before giving up the chase

Was it the jews? Nothing conclusive on that but the use of mercenary army's fits the bill, as well as some of the other details (like they were sea merchants before they decided to go for broke and attack everyone with a proxy army). But what ever the full facts of it were it sure sounds like the plot of lord of the rings dont it.
