AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan said Wednesday a group of 279 Syrian rescue workers has left the kingdom for resettlement in Western countries three months after they were evacuated by Israel.

The kingdom announced on July 22 it had received 422 White Helmet rescuers and their relatives after they were evacuated from Syria’s south ahead of advancing government troops.

The group had been ferried to Israel from its war-torn neighbor and foe Syria and then escorted to Jordan by the Israeli military.

More Troops To Be Deployed To Southern US Border; Will Build 160 Miles Of Fencing

More US troops will be deployed to the Southern border to "construct or upgrade" 160 miles of fending, as well as provide medical care to thousands of migrants arriving from Central America, reports NPR, citing military sources.

The Pentagon will foot the bill out of its discretionary funding for the deployment and fence construction along the California and Arizona borders with Mexico.

Word of the deployment comes amid a heated battle over $5 billion in funding President Trump has demanded for a southern border wall, which is currently at the center of a partial government shutdown.

The move comes as President Trump continues to demand $5 billion from Congress for border security and a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Congressional Democrats oppose the move, and parts of the federal government have been shut down because of the impasse.

The request for more troops to shore up the US-Mexico border was made by the Department of Homeland Security - which will add to the deployment of some 2,300 active duty troops on the border as well as 2,100 National Guard troops. Those deployed will include aviation units and combat engineers.

The original active-duty deployment announced in November was slated to be completed at the end of January, with Guard troops scheduled to remain until September.

According to a senior military official, the new request could include thousands of additional troops, while the installation of new fencing could take months.

Pelosi: The Constitution Considers Me Trump’s Equal

Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) said in an interview with the New York Times that the Constitution considers her to be President Donald Trump's equal.

Pelosi is set to regain the speaker's gavel after spending eight years as House minority leader. Pelosi was the first female speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011, and she maneuvered to get the party's votes necessary to secure the speakership again after Democrats won back the chamber in the November midterms.

In a piece with a headline declaring her an "icon of female power," Pelosi was asked by the reporter "if she considers herself Mr. Trump's equal."

"The Constitution does," she replied.

While the Presidential Succession Act names the speaker of the House second in line for the presidency after the vice president, the two positions are not equal. Pelosi may have been referring to her stature as a leader of one of the co-equal branches of government.

Pelosi won liberal accolades last month for her Oval Office interaction with Trump where they argued over funding for the White House's desired southern border wall. The impasse over the border has forced a partial government shutdown that's lasted nearly two weeks.

Pelosi will be the first lawmaker to have two separate tenures as House speaker since Democrat Sam Rayburn held the gavel in three different periods (1940-1947, 1949-1953, and 1955-1961).

California and Los Angeles County to Remove 1.5 Million Inactive Voters from Voter Rolls – Settle Judicial Watch Federal Lawsuit

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it signed a settlement agreement with the State of California and County of Los Angeles under which they will begin the process of removing from their voter registration rolls as many as 1.5 million inactive registered names that may be invalid. These removals are required by the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA).

The NVRA is a federal law requiring the removal of inactive registrations from the voter rolls after two general federal elections (encompassing from 2 to 4 years). Inactive voter registrations belong, for the most part, to voters who have moved to another county or state or have passed away.

Los Angeles County has over 10 million residents, more than the populations of 41 of the 50 United States. California is America’s largest state, with almost 40 million residents.

Judicial Watch filed a 2017 federal lawsuit to force the cleanup of voter rolls (Judicial Watch, Inc., et al. v. Dean C. Logan, et al. (No. 2:17-cv-08948)). Judicial Watch sued on its own behalf and on behalf of Wolfgang Kupka, Rhue Guyant, Jerry Griffin, and Delores M. Mars, who are lawfully registered voters in Los Angeles County. Judicial Watch was also joined by Election Integrity Project California, Inc., a public interest group that has long been involved in monitoring California’s voter rolls.

In its lawsuit, Judicial Watch alleged:

Los Angeles County has more voter registrations on its voter rolls than it has citizens who are old enough to register. Specifically, according to data provided to and published by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, Los Angeles County has a registration rate of 112 percent of its adult citizen population.

The entire State of California has a registration rate of about 101 percent of its age-eligible citizenry.

Eleven of California’s 58 counties have registration rates exceeding 100 percent of the age-eligible citizenry.

Rep. Jim Jordan Goes Off on Democrat Who Introduced Articles of Impeachment on First Day of New Congress

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan slammed Democrat California Rep. Brad Sherman for introducing articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump for the second time on the first day of the 116th Congress.

Jordan has been a strong supporter of the president and the America First agenda. In a tweet on Thursday he called out Sherman and stated that the Democrats are more interested in stopping Trump than helping the nation.

“We knew they couldn’t help themselves. Rep. Sherman files articles of impeachment on the President. Dems are more focused on stopping Trump than building the Wall and helping the country,” Jordan tweeted on Thursday.

Jordan is the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and sits on the House Judiciary Committee, which holds jurisdiction over impeachment proceedings, The Hill noted.

Sherman previously introduced articles of impeachment in 2017.

Sherman alleges obstruction of justice for Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

GOP senator calls on Congress to end shutdown without border deal

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who faces a potentially tough reelection in 2020, says Congress should re-open the federal government, even without a deal on funding President Trump’s border wall.

Gardner is the first Senate Republican to call for ending the partial shutdown even without a deal on Trump’s demand for $5 billion to fund a border wall.

“I think we should pass a continuing resolution to get the government back open. The Senate has done it last Congress, we should do it again today,” he said.

Gardner says the onus will then be on Democrats to explain why they don’t support more money for border security after they voted to spend an additional $46 billion on the border in 2013.

All but five Democrats on the Senate Appropriations Committee last year voted for a homeland security funding bill that allocated $1.6 billion for border fencing. Democratic leaders have since retrenched their offer, proposing $1.3 billion — the same amount Congress appropriated for fiscal 2018 — for border fencing.

“We can pass legislation that has the appropriations number in it while we continue to get more but we should continue to do our jobs and get the government open,” Gardner said, referring to the funding number for border fencing that Democrats have already agreed to.

Gardner said negotiations on Trump’s border wall can continue once federal agencies are reopened and Republicans can “let Democrats explain why they no longer support border security.”

Parts of the government have been closed since Dec. 22 after Democrats rejected Trump’s demand for $5 billion in wall funding.

The Senate passed a stopgap measure to keep the government open until Feb. 8. It kept funding for border fencing flat at the 2018 level.

The House, however, did not act on that bill, and instead passed a measure that included $5.7 billion in funding for the wall and border security. Democrats objected to that measure in the Senate.
