According to a Nov. 3, 2016 New York Post article, George magazine founding partner Michael Berman recalled that JFK Jr. mentioned Donald Trump as a possible presidential candidate in 1996.

Berman spoke about JFK Jr.’s comments in remarks at an October 2016 ceremony at Elon University. The event celebrated a six-figure donation from Berman and his wife to Elon’s School of Communications.

Berman said Kennedy flew a select group of advertisers to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. The 1996 gathering followed an industry conference in Florida.

Donald Trump attended the Mar-a-Lago gathering.

Talk soon turned to whether JFK Jr. could envision himself running for president. Trying to deflect the presidential speculation, Kennedy noted the Trump estate was far more glamorous than a Kennedy family compound a few miles away, the New York Post reported.

“I think you should be asking those questions of Donald,” Kennedy said, Berman recalled.

In 1996 Berman was the 35-year-old editor-in-chief of George, the political-pop culture magazine. JFK Jr. and Berman co-founded George, which was published by Hachette Filipacchi Media in New York City from 1995 to 2001.
