Speaking as a landlord, I would be very understanding of a tenant who was affected by the gov't shutdown. I have always been understanding of personal matters. I treat others as I would wish to treat me in the same circumstances. Have I been burnt before? Sure, but it hasn't changed my outlook.
Point well taken. Hard to be charitable if it takes food out of your mouth. However, I remember the stories of those who were understanding of my grandparents who were immigrants when they needed credit. I think of it as paying it forward.
