Third Accusation of Sex Abuse Surfaces Against Ex-Cardinal McCarrick

The Vatican is now investigating three separate charges of homosexual abuse against former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the latest of which was reported less than three months ago and has just become public.

Though details surrounding the case remain scarce since the alleged victim has chosen to remain anonymous, the man is reportedly in his forties, and the alleged abuse would have taken place when he was a minor.

The online Catholic news outlet Crux broke the story Saturday, noting that as with the case of another of McCarrick’s accusers, James Grein, the latest alleged victim was known to McCarrick through close family friends.

In late December, the Associated Press (AP) released a series of graphic details from Mr. Grein’s testimony against McCarrick, alleging sexual abuse spanning many years beginning when Grein was a boy of 11.

According to Grein’s lawyer, Patrick Noaker, Grein offered “chilling” details about repeated incidents of groping during the sacrament of confession, adding further gravity to the original charges of sexually abusing a minor.

McCarrick’s third alleged victim, a former altar boy at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, reported two incidents of abuse dating back to 1971 and 1972, claims that were substantiated by an archdiocesan review board last June.

Although these three are the only individuals so far to report having suffered abuse as minors, a number of others have accused the former cardinal of homosexual abuse and harassment occurring when they were over the age of 16.

Schiff: ‘I Presume’ Trump Is ‘Voted Out of Office’

During an interview with the Hill on Friday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) stated that he presumes the Trump presidency ends with Trump “being voted out of office.”

Schiff said, “There are days when I feel I’m on a ship and the rivets are popping off, and we’re taking on water, and I’m despairing about what’s happening to the ship of state. But then I realize we are still afloat, and we will get through this. Now, where it ends, I don’t know. I presume it ends with Donald Trump being voted out of office. But Bob Mueller will have a lot to say about that. We shouldn’t prejudge what he concludes or the evidence that he’s gathered.”

Beto O’Rourke Supports ‘Concept’ of ‘Green New Deal’

Beto O’Rourke supports the “concept” of a Green New Deal, a proposed economic stimulus program designed to transition the U.S. from fossil fuels to 100 percent renewable energy within a decade, joining other potential 2020 presidential candidates in backing the initiative.

Chris Evans, a spokesman for O’Rourke, told HuffPost Friday that the former Texas congressman is “supportive of the concept” of a Green New Deal and its focus on “green job” creation.

“[He] is looking forward to engaging more on the issue as it continues to develop,” Evans said in a statement emailed to the left-wing news outlet. “As he mentioned while traveling to every county across Texas during his senate campaign, he’s proud to come from a renewable energy producing state that is number one in wind power production, number one in wind power jobs and number one in solar energy potential.”

News of O’Rourke’s support for the Green New Deal comes after Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who launched her presidential exploratory committee this week, came out in favor of the proposal. “Senator Warren has been a longtime advocate of aggressively addressing climate change and shifting toward renewables, and supports the idea of a Green New Deal to ambitiously tackle our climate crisis, economic inequality, and racial injustice,” an aide for the Massachusetts Democrat told Axios Wednesday.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) — another leading 2020 contender — has not only voiced support for Green New Deal, but plans to introduce legislation supporting it.

Woman Allegedly Bagged $200,000 in Food Stamps While Running $1 Million Business

A Pittsburgh-area woman is facing criminal charges for allegedly bagging $200,000 in food stamps while she operated a business that received $1.24 million from Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services.

Authorities charged Kimberly Coleman, 35, of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, with three counts of welfare fraud, the Associated Press reported.

Each count carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, meaning Coleman could spend a maximum of 21 years behind bars if convicted on all counts.

Authorities say Coleman illegally pocketed $195,000 in food stamp benefits between 2014 and 2018.

Starting in 2014, Coleman owned and operated a business called Lioness Community Care, which provided community-based residential care to people with developmental disabilities, the Butler Eagle reported.

The state’s Department of Human Services paid Coleman and her husband $1.24 million between June 2014 and November 30, 2017, and the money went into nine different bank accounts under their names, investigators said.

Investigators with the state’s Office of Inspector General noted that Coleman leased property with her husband during that time, paying an estimated $8,900 per month for the residential property in Cranberry Township.

Democrats take aim at presidential tax returns, conflicts of interest in new ethics proposal

As one of their first big-ticket legislative proposals of the new Congress, House Democrats on Friday unveiled a sweeping anti-corruption, campaign finance and ethics reform package that takes aim at long-simmering concerns about President Donald Trump’s possible conflicts of interest between his actions as president and his family business.

The massive proposal, known as “The For the People Act” and designated as “House Resolution 1,” also includes dozens of measures from Democrats on ethics and campaign finance reform, voting rights and election security. It would also require presidential and vice presidential candidates to release 10 years of their personal tax returns and require sitting presidents and vice presidents to do the same.
