Hillary Clinton has met with 5 Democrats eyeing 2020
Hillary Clinton has discussed the 2020 presidential election with at least five Democrats considering a run for the White House. The 2016 nominee has already spoken to Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, and Cory Booker, along with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, according to multiple reports. Sources told CNN that other prospective Democratic candidates are seeking a meeting with Clinton in the hopes of gaining her support.
These prospective contenders "know tens of millions of Democrats love Hillary and want her to try again," an unnamed Clinton confidant told Axios. "The savvy ones know she’s the most valuable endorser in the party not named Obama." Warren is the only Democrat in that list who has actually made a move toward a 2020 campaign. She announced last week the formation of an exploratory committee for a White House bid, which allows her to raise money without formally declaring. Clinton has pushed back on talk that she herself would initiate a third campaign for president. "No," she said when asked by Recode, before admitting when pressed: "Well I’d like to be president." Former advisers to Clinton predict she will ultimately choose to run or that the odds of her doing so are greater than 0 percent.
