Ryan Seacrest Shows Off Time's Up Bracelet One Year After Misconduct Claims Against Him
The TV host was previously accused of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement, a claim he has strenuously denied. Ryan Seacrest accessorized his velvet suit with a Time's Up bracelet at the 2019 Golden Globes on Sunday night.
Seacrest's E! red carpet co-host Giuliana Rancic first introduced the bracelet, letting viewers know they might be seeing it on the wrists of stars throughout the night and that the women's empowerment movement will continue to be a topic of discussion on the carpet. The camera then cut to Seacrest, who then showed off his own bracelet. "You'll see those bracelets on the carpet, I've got the black one here on my wrist," said Seacrest. The co-hosts said the bracelets are to celebrate the Time's Up accomplishments in the past year and to also talk about what's ahead for the fund that was founded in response to the mistreatment of women in Hollywood and other industries.
The TV host's accessory raised eyebrows on social media, as Seacrest was previously accused of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement. Seacrest has strenuously denied the accusation and a third-party investigator found the claim to be unsubstantiated. Former E! stylist Suzie Hardy came forward with her accusation against Seacrest last year in an interview with Variety, telling the outlet that the television personality routinely sexually harassed her and abused her during her tenure as a stylist at E! in the mid-2000s. She later filed a police report.
Seacrest himself wrote a column for The Hollywood Reporter about being "wrongly" accused, writing, "To have my workplace conduct questioned was gut-wrenching." Viewers of the Globes red carpet were quick to call Seacrest out. “Ryan Seacrest is wearing? A Time’s Up bracelet? While everyone just kinda ignores that he was one of the accused men last year? SURE OK,” one wrote, while another added, "What gives Ryan Seacrest the ego to wear a #TimesUp bracelet? Does he think we forgot? My dude, the time for you is not today."
