Captured Islamic State Jihadist ‘Entitled to Consular Assistance’ from Ireland

A suspected Islamic State fighter who was captured by Kurdish forces is a citizen of the Republic of Ireland who was known to Irish police.

According to reports, the 45-year-old male is originally from Belarus but gained Irish citizenship after having lived and worked in Dublin for a number of years.

Named by the Irish Independent as Alexandr Ruzmatovich Bekmirzaev, it is believed that he left for the Middle East in 2013.

Irish taoiseach (prime minister) Leo Varadkar told media on Monday, “I’ve only heard about that in the last short while.

“The information we have is that an Irish citizen has been taken into custody in Syria.

“We don’t know the details of that so I can’t comment on it in any detail, but what I can say is that any Irish citizen around the world is entitled to consular assistance and will get that.”

Broadcaster RTÉ reported Sunday night that Garda sources said that the suspected captured militant was known to the Irish police, the Gardaí, in the context of monitoring individuals suspected of being sympathetic to radical causes.

The Independent reports he had been providing logistical support to radicals connected to Islamic State and was described by one Gardaí officer as “a lot more than a sympathiser.”

Security and anti-terrorism specialist Declan Power said it was concerning that a man apparently known to Garda Siochana’s crime and security branches had obtained Irish citizenship, which would also grant him the right to move freely through the rest of the European Union.

“We can’t be complacent about the reach of extremism into this State from other locations. It’s a wake-up call for us not to be complacent,” Mr Power said.

Bekmirzaev and four others, two Americans and two Pakistanis, were captured December 30th by the Syrian Democratic Forces, pictured above fighting Islamic State in the battle to retake Raqa in 2017, with details only being released on Sunday.

The SDF said in a statement that during operation Jazeera Storm, which aims to liberate the last regions under Islamic State occupation, they had detected “a group of terrorists who had been preparing to attack the civilians who were trying to get out of the war zone in masses.”

“Following long-term technical and physical ­follow-up, an operation against the cell was carried out by our forces,” they added.

“As a result of the operation, five terrorists originally from the United States, Ireland, and Pakistan were captured.”

According to two affidavits filed in court, not only did different witnesses see Ninth Circle Satanic Cult members commit murder, but claimed the brutal killings of innocent children continued today, some in sub-basement vaults.

Israel's Syncretism with Baal, Child Sacrifice, High Places, and a Furious God

I can remember reading with great difficulty of the wholesale destruction required by God as Israel moved to possess their promised land.

Clear back with Moses, God was very clear:

“When the Lord your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, 30 take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’ 31 You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. (Deuteronomy 12:29-31)

Now here, a great many generations later, Israel has morphed their faith into a syncretic amalgam of faith in the one true God, with that of Baal worship. Even the wise Solomon tragically ended his life in a shameful syncretic worship of false gods.

Archaeology has provided us with concrete evidence of the Scriptures testimony of these facts in the Tel Gezer. At Tel Gezer, they have unearthed a "high place" used for sacrifice (pictured above), and have even found the ancient charred remains of sacrificed children.

Here today, I find in my daily ESV Study Bible Devotional, after scores of disobedient kings who "did evil in the sight of the Lord", we find that God will act against his chosen people for their horrific acts, which included child sacrifice.

It is easy for me to be horrified, and completely mystified as to how Israel might go from living amongst the presence of God to this hideous display. However, before I could even finish typing that last sentence, I was quickly reminded of several times in my life that I found myself way out in left field, far away from a relationship with God. Certainly not involved in child sacrifice, but also most certainly following my own selfish desires, which resulted in shameful behaviors as well.

With a 53 year dose of life under my belt, and having now nearly read the whole of God's testimony, I can far better understand the value of these texts. Unfortunately, many of us must learn things the hard way.

I am very grateful that God has not allowed me to stray too far from his side. Further, I am now grateful to understand that God disciplines those whom he calls his own. And even further still, I am most amazed at this thing called grace. I have tasted the unmerited favor of Abba.
