I am a fucking planefag and my opinion is based on watching the mil planes.

We were told by a mil anon that some squadrons have their own callsign standards, other callsigns are based on the commander's rank, and it varies all over the place. We know what SAM, PAT, and RCH stand for.

The other callsigns, I believe, are often a handle for a specific pilot or operation. Like the DINGOs which are Spec Ops planes when not in South America.
