I have relatives in the federal government. Regular workers, just like yourself. They are not paid a small amount. They are paid well above private sector for the same job set.

I have worked private sector for 30 years. For 10 of those years,i actually lost money, year after year. A small raise, offset by increased healthcare premiums. I do not feel sorry for you whatsoever.

What you are experiencing is what each and every household has over the past decade. My suggestion is to pay down debt asap, and roll back on luxury, nonessential monthly bills. Cable, restuarants, bars, movies, etc. Anything that you can do without, cut way back on. I didn't vacation in over 8 years. It sucks, but that wont change for now. POTUS is working on it.

Depends on the state and cost of living. In a blue state, heavily taxed,70k for a couple is not poor, but much of that is taken by property values, and then property taxes. 25% for a home mortgage where i live is a joke. It is about half, just under.

What it boils down to is the overall size of government. We all noticed our "representatives and public servants" have become very wealthy using our money to wash each other's backs. Time for that to stop.
