DOJ Delays Whitaker's House Testimony Until Next Month

Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker won’t testify before the House until next month, after the Department of Justice intervened to delay his appearance, Politico reports.
Whitaker, who took charge of the department after former Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ resignation, told lawmakers in November that he would abide by “all the regulations, policies and procedures,” and vowed to testify before the House once Democrats take control. But according to Politico, it has not been easy to schedule Whitaker’s testimony. The Justice Department blamed the ongoing partial government shutdown and Whitaker’s own busy schedule for the current delay.
It’s possible that Whitaker will be replaced by President Donald Trump’s choice for a permanent attorney general, William Barr, before Whitaker testifies before Congress. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., told Politico that this renders Whitaker’s testimony pointless, and that Democrats shouldn’t bother with a subpoena.
