29 Facts About the Border and Mexican Cartels You Need to Know

As the debate about the construction of a wall and other border security issues, here are 29 facts that you need to know. The topics came up during the most recent episode of “Coffee with Scott Adams.” Brandon Darby, the Managing Editor for Breitbart’s Border and Cartel Chronicles, sat down with the famed creator of the Dilbert comics to discuss the intricacies of border security.

1) No one is proposing a wall between all of Mexico and the U.S.—the U.S. southern border is approximately 2,000 miles. The discussion is about 1,000 miles of physical barriers in regions that are heavily controlled by drug cartels.

2) The Texas border is about 1,200 miles of the approximately 2,000 miles of the total southern border. Most of that border is the Rio Grande, a river which varies in intensity with respect to currents.

3) Mexico has numerous states under the direct influence of drug cartels that have standing armies with access to RPGs, armored vehicles, artillery, and explosives. Most of Mexico has military forces patrolling streets to deal with cartel paramilitary forces.

4) The most violent drug cartels operate south of the Texas border. Factions of Los Zetas and the Gulf Cartel routinely allow their violence to spill over to the average person.

5) The border city of Tijuana has some of the highest murder statistics in all of Mexico. Despite record-setting figures, most of the victims tend to be tied to drug trafficking.

6) Border cities south of Texas like Reynosa, Tamaulipas, have much lower murder rates than Tijuana. Despite the difference, average citizens are often touched by cartels including shootouts, kidnappings, and other violent activities.

7) Most of the efforts by drug cartels to control migration happens South of the Texas border. Criminal organizations like the Reynosa faction of the Gulf Cartel profit more from human smuggling than drug trafficking.

8) The majority of tunnels are found on the Arizona and California borders. The tunnels are generally discovered in areas where there are population centers on both sides of the border and a wall or fence is already in place. Few have been found in Texas, where there is a river.

9) Most tunnels are discovered thanks to informants; law enforcement technology has rarely been successful in locating border tunnels.

10) Most of the border does not have a drug tunnel problem. They are typically found in Douglas and Nogales, Arizona, as well as Mexicali, San Diego/San Isidro, California.

11) Cartels spend a lot of money building a tunnel–only to be discovered shortly after.

12) Claims by Democrats about the low crime rates in El Paso are an example of walls working. In areas with considerable border barriers such as El Paso, the regional criminal groups turn more professional and shy away from illegal immigration to traffic harder drugs through ports of entry.

13) The presence of physical barriers in cities like El Paso has led to fewer people coming over the border to commit petty crimes or bring loads of drugs on their backs. The criminal organizations in the area shifted toward corrupting U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials to smuggle harder drugs.

14) A partially secured border is more deadly than an open or well-secured one. Previous administrations put barriers south of most cities in Arizona and California to funnel illicit traffic into areas that were easier to manage or too desolate to cross. This led to a spike in deaths since the desire of people to reach the U.S. pushes them to more remote and dangerous areas.

15) Human smuggling and illegal immigration will continue to be a problem until economic opportunities improve in Mexico and in Central America.

CNN’s Lemon Suggests Networks Delay Trump Address Because People Might ‘Believe’ It

CNN host Don Lemon suggested on his program Monday night that television networks should delay President Donald Trump’s upcoming address on border security when they air it.

“Listen, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t do it, but do you think it should be, I don’t know, a delay of some sort, and then you can…because people believe it. People–the president will say what he has to say,” Don Lemon lamented. “People will believe it whether the facts are true or not. I guess that’s the chance you take with any president.”

“But this one is different,” Lemon continued. “Then by the time the rebuttals come on, we’ve already promoted propaganda, possibly, unless he gets up there and he tells the truth.”

The Establishment Strikes Back: Pro-EU MPs Amend Govt Bill to Sabotage No Deal Brexit

BRUSSELS (AP) – Britain’s Parliament has dealt the government a narrow defeat by passing an amendment designed to put roadblocks in place to make a “No Deal” Brexit more difficult.

Legislators on Tuesday backed an amendment to the Finance Bill that would prohibit spending on “No Deal” preparations unless authorised by Parliament.

The vote showed widespread opposition in Parliament to possible plans for a “No Deal” scenario under which Britain would leave the European Union on March 29th without a departure agreement in place.

Republican Lawmakers Demand Answers From Special Prosecutor John Huber – Give Him January 21 Deadline

Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee say John Huber, the special prosecutor tapped by former AG Jeff Sessions to investigate FISA abuse by the DOJ and FBI still has not interviewed key witnesses and they want answers.

Mark Meadows (R-NC), Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Doug Collins (R-GA) sent a letter to special prosecutor John Huber on Monday demanding answers by a January 21st deadline.

“Your investigation has been ongoing for over nine months. During the course of our extensive investigation we have interviewed more than a dozen current and former DOJ and FBI personnel, and were surprised to hear none of these potentially informative witnesses testified to speaking with you,” the GOP lawmakers wrote.

The Republican Congressmen then blasted Huber for being a no-show at the December hearing where Clinton Foundation whistleblowers Lawrence Doyle of DM Income Advisors and John Moynihan of JFM Associates testified.

“Further, last month, then-chairman Mark Meadows invited you to testify as a witness at the Subcommittee on Government Operations’ hearing ‘Oversight of Nonprofit Organizations: A Case Study on the Clinton Foundation.’ We were disappointed to learn from the department that you were not enthusiastic about testifying when declining the invitation.”

The GOP Congressmen gave Huber a deadline of January 21st to respond to the following demands:

The total number of witnesses you have interviewed, including names of specific individuals where possible, and the number of witnesses remaining to be interviewed;

The total number of FISA applications reviewed;

The total number of documents reviewed, including their substance and format (e.g. emails, meeting notes, phone logs, etc); and

A description and account of your coordination with DOJ IG Michael Horowitz”

Huber has done nothing since Jeff Sessions appointed him in the Fall of 2017 to investigate FISA abuses.

The Clinton Foundation whistleblowers, Mr. Moynihan and Mr. Doyle told the committee they had to send their evidence to the Huber investigation THREE TIMES because they kept losing it.

In October, Congressman Meadows and Jim Jordan said they wanted to haul John Huber in before Congress to testify because they had not received any updates on Huber’s investigation.

Furthermore, according to Congressman Meadows, there is no evidence John Huber has done anything other than be appointed by Jeff Sessions.

The evidence is mounting that John Huber, a US Attorney from Utah, was appointed by Jeff Sessions as one big head fake.

It’s time for this charade to come to an end and a real special counsel must be appointed to investigate Obama’s criminal DOJ and FBI for their FISA abuses and Russiagate.

Syrian Refugees at Camp in Lebanon Buried in Snow and Ice — Refugee Director Blames Global Warming

You. Just. Can’t. Make. This. Up.

The lunacy of the American left has worked it’s way to Middle East war refugee camps.

Unusually cold and snowy weather battered northeastern Lebanon recently affecting 250,000 Syrian refugees.

The war refugees fled to Lebanon following the Islamic State’s siege of Iraq and Syria.

The Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations reported:

The snowstorm “Norma” is battering Northeastern Lebanon with heavy snow, rain and strong winds affecting nearly 250,000 refugees. Hundreds of refugee camps and settlements in the area from the Akkar Plain to Bekaa Valley have been devastated by the storm. The camps house thousands of Syrian refugees in little more than tents and improvised wooden structures. UNHCR reported 70% of Syrian refugees in Lebanon live below the poverty line and 41% have precarious and unsafe housing…

…Flooding and heavy rains in Northern Syria, which started on December 26, have also devastated IDP camps across the region. Thousands of tents and the personal possessions of these IDPs were washed away, including medical supplies, wheel chairs and equipment. The people in these camps have lost what little they had left with no way of replacing them.

Dr. Hussam Al Fakir, Chairman of UOSSM International said, “Climate change has unleashed hellish conditions on the Syrian refugees in Lebanon. These families are living in tents, with all their clothes and possessions soaked and temperatures below freezing. Children, elderly, the infirm and vulnerable will not survive much longer without being moved to warm and dry locations. This is a humanitarian nightmare and will require an enormous coordinated effort to reach all of these camps in time.”

World Bank Lowers Oil Price, Global GDP Growth Forecasts

The World Bank (WB) lowered its forecast for the average oil price for the next two years to $67 per barrel, down $4 from its December forecast.

In December, the World Bank expected oil price to average at $71 per barrel in 2019-2021, in June forecast it predicted $69 per barrel.

"Oil prices are expected to average $67/bbl in 2019 and 2020, $2/bbl lower than June projections; however, uncertainty around the forecast is high," the bank's report says.

The World Bank also said in its global economic outlook it had lowered its forecast for global economic growth by 0.1 percentage points to 2.9 percent due to a fall in trade and manufacturing, as well as due to trade wars.

"Global economic growth is projected to soften from a downwardly revised 3 percent in 2018 to 2.9 percent in 2019 amid rising downside risks to the outlook… International trade and manufacturing activity have softened, trade tensions remain elevated, and some large emerging markets have experienced substantial financial market pressures," the bank said.

GDP growth forecast for the next year is also revised downward by the same 0.1 percentage points to 2.8 percent.

At the same time, the bank kept the 2019 growth forecast for developed economies and for the United States unchanged at 2 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. The 2019 forecast for the euro area was lowered by 0.1 percentage points to 1.6 percent.

However, the bank slashed US GDP growth outlook for 2020 by 0.3 percentage points to 1.7 percent.

Chinese GDP growth forecast was lowered by 0.1 percentage points to 6.2 percent in 2019 and kept unchanged at the same 6.2 percent in 2020.

The bank maintained its December forecast for Russia's GDP for 2019 and 2020 at 1.5 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively.
