Barry Sherman, Apotex invests in Broward County… then reconsiders

That Sherman had a numbered Ontario company with his sister-in-law named as an officer wouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with his labyrinthine holdings outside of Apotex—ventures that put the test to Sherman’s claim he didn’t care about making money. Relatives pop up in the records of Sherman’s non-Apotex ventures held through “Sherm”-prefixed companies—including Shermco Inc., Sherfam Inc., Sherfam Industries Inc., Sherfam Holdings Inc.—as well as Bernard C. Sherman Limited and numerous trusts and private foundations. The Shermans’ real estate holdings—apartment buildings, condos, commercial properties, rumoured private islands—were held via Sherfam Inc., Signet Realty and Weston, Fla.-based Sherm Realty, as well as trusts.

Canada-based generic pharmaceutical company Apotex Corp. bought a warehouse in Miramar for $50 million.
An affiliate of Apotex, called Sherm Realty Corp., bought the 302,864-square-foot warehouse Jan. 31 for $165 per square foot.
The seller was Atlanta-based industrial property developer IDI Gazeley, which built the warehouse in 2014.
The warehouse is located on a 20-acre lot in a corporate park that IDI Gazeley developed at 15501 Southwest 29 Street in Miramar, northwest of Miramar Parkway and Interstate 75. The park’s tenants include Kellstrom Defense Industries Inc. (NOTE: Sherman had a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from MIT in 1967 at 24, possibly in avionics and control systems)
Colliers International reported that the pace of industrial-space absorption in Broward during last year’s fourth quarter was the fastest in a decade and supported “skyrocketing” lease rates.
