Small portion of Radical Crimes in Canada

 

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was severely criticized for stating in 2011, (a decade after 9/11) that the biggest security threat to Canada is Islamic terrorism.

In the 1990s, Canada was home to at least two groups connected to the Islamist terrorist organization Al Qaeda. A cell of the Armed Islamic Group, an Algerian group affiliated with Al Qaeda, operated in Montreal, raising funds through theft and fraud. Several members had trained at an Al Qaeda camp in Afghanistan, including Ahmed Ressam, who was caught in Port Angeles, Washington, in December 1999 with explosives and detonators in his trunk. Ressam, whom the media dubbed the Millennium Bomber, intended to blow up the Los Angeles International Airport on or around 1 January 2000. In Toronto, another group was led by Ahmed Said Khadr, a friend of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Khadr raised funds in Canada for Islamist attacks abroad, including the 1995 bombing of the Egyptian embassy in Islamabad, which killed 18 and injured 75.

2006 - police arrested 18 individuals in Toronto (the Toronto 18) and charged them with planning terrorist attacks. The group had planned to set off truck bombs at the Toronto Stock Exchange and the Toronto regional headquarters of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). The 18 also intended to storm the Parliament buildings in Ottawa, where they would take hostages and behead the prime minister. Seven of the suspects were released after charges against them were stayed. Eleven were eventually found guilty.

2008 - Software engineer Momin Khawaja, the first person charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act, was convicted for his role for participating in, contributing to, financing and facilitating a group of British Islamist extremists plotting to bomb British targets, including a shopping centre, a nightclub and public utility stations, and to wage a jihad against the West.

2009 - Said Namouth: The Moroccan-born Quebecer was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of four terrorism offences stemming from an overseas plot masterminded by the Global Islamic Media Front, an affiliate of the al-Qaida terrorist network. The group planned to blow up targets in Austria and Germany to protest their military presence in Afghanistan. He was convicted on charges of conspiracy, participating and facilitating terrorist activity, and extortion.

2009 - Police in Windsor, Ont., arrested the fugitive son of an Islamic leader who was killed during an FBI raid near Detroit. Mujahid Carswell, 30, was taken into custody as police searched for 11 suspects, three of them from Ontario, who were named in an FBI criminal probe. Abdullah was considered the leader of the so-called Ummah group, who are alleged to have conspired to sell stolen property and illegal weapons. Two Ontario men Mohammad Alsahi, 33; and Yassir Ali Khan, 30. Both face a single charge of conspiracy to commit federal crimes. In an email, FBI spokesperson Sandra Berchtold told CTV.ca that Carswell lives in Ontario, while Alsahi and Khan are Canadian citizens

2010 - Three men were involved in a conspiracy to commit "a violent terrorism attack". Misbahuddin Ahmed, 26, and Hiva Alizadeh, 30, both of Ottawa, and 28-year-old Khurram Sher, of London, Ont.

2010 - Asad Noor Saleh, 24, was faced with two charges of sexual assault, two charges of impersonating an officer, and charges for forcible confinement, theft under $5,000 and robbery. (Canadian Immigration Report)

2012 – Hassan El Hajj Hassan, holding dual nationality, Canadian and Lebanese, Hizbullah activist, member of the terrorist cell that bombed an Israeli tourist bus in Bulgaria.

2012 – William Plotnikov, 23, Canadian of Russian descent. Converted to Islam and joined a terrorist group in Dagestan. Killed in gun battle with Russian security forces.

2012 – Hussam Samir al-Hams, Canadian of Palestinian descent, enlisted with Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades, Killed during IDF operation in Gaza.

2012 – Aaron Yoon, resident of London, Ontario. Converted to Islam and allegedly established ties to groups affiliated with al-Qaeda. Visited Mali. Arrested in Mauritania on charges of ties to terrorist groups.

2012 - 8th and 8th mosque in downtown Calgary investigated for radicalization. Many of the men began leaving in late 2012 for Syria and Iraq, nearly a dozen of them met secretly. Damian Clairmont, 22, was killed fighting alongside Islamic extremists in Syria. Gregory and Collin Gordon, they joined ISIS after transiting through Egypt. Both are believed to have been killed in December 2014 fighting for ISIS..

2013: Two people were arrested and charged with conspiring to blow up the British Columbia legislative building in the midst of Canada Day festivities. John Nuttall and Amanda Korody were each charged with knowingly facilitating a terrorist activity, making or possessing an explosive device, and conspiracy to place an explosive device with the intent to cause death or injury.Their guilty verdict was later tossed out.

2013 – Ali Medlej and Xristos Katsiroubas (Christian converted to Islam), residents of London, Ontario, joined al-Qaeda, killed in suicide attack in Algeria, after participating in the murder of dozens of civilians. Muhajid ‘Ryan’ Enderi, additional member of this group from London, Ontario. Traveled with them abroad and has since disappeared.

2013 – Jamal Muhammad Abdulkader, student from Montreal, member of Kurdish family from north Syria, joined Jabhat al-Nusra, affiliated with al-Qaeda. Killed in explosive truck attack in central Damascus.

2013 – Chihab Esseghaier, resident of Montreal of Tunisian descent, and Raed Jaser, resident of Markham, born in Kuwait of Palestinian descent, arrested on suspicion of planning to blow up VIA train on Niagara bridge on course to U.S. Ahmed Abbasi, Tunisian citizen, resided in Canada between 2010-2012, arrested in U.S. on suspicion of involvement in plans to blow up the train.

2013 – Mahad Ali Dhore, 25, Canadian of Somali descent, student at York University, joined al-Shabab group, affiliated with al-Qaeda, killed in terrorist attack in Somalia.

2013 – Damian Clairmont, young Canadian resident of Calgary, converted to Islam, joined émigré brigade in Syria affiliated with al-Qaeda.

2013 – John Stewart Nuttall and Amanda Marie Korody, couple from Surry in British Columbia. Converted to Islam, arrested on suspicion of planning to bomb parliament building in Victoria.

2013 – Omar Shafik Hammami (Abu Mansoor al-Amriki), U.S. citizen, resided several years in Canada and married Canadian woman (later divorced). Joined al-Shabab in Somalia, affiliated with al-Qaeda. Murdered in internal power struggle.

2013 – Ali Muhammad Dirie, Toronto resident of Somali descent. Joined Jabhat al-Nusra in Syria, affiliated with al-Qaeda and killed in action. Dirie was convicted of involvement in Toronto 18 terrorist plot in 2006 and served a long prison term.

2014 -After being expelled from Germany and banned from the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, a Canadian Muslim preacher was detained in the Philippines for “inciting and recruiting people to conduct terrorist activities.” Bilal Philips was born in Jamaica and converted to Islam in the 1970s after immigrating to Canada.

2014 - Hiva Alizadeh: The Ottawa resident, who wanted to form a terrorist group dedicated to violent jihad in Canada, pleaded guilty to explosives possession with the intent to cause harm as part of a terrorist conspiracy in 2014. He was sentenced to 24 years.

2014 - Mohamed Hersi: The Toronto resident was sentenced to 10 years behind bars in July 2014 for trying to travel overseas to join a Somali-based terrorist group.

2014 - Misbahuddin Ahmed, a former diagnostic-imaging technician, convicted of two terrorist-related offences: conspiracy to commit a terrorist offence and participating in the activities of a terrorist Group. He was acquitted of the most serious of the charges against him, explosive device possession.

2014 - Martin Couture Rouleau converted to radical Islam undergoing a profound transformation that drew him to the attention of police. He ran down two soldiers with his car in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, killing one.

2014 - Islamic Rape Gangs in Canada? Police have charged 22-year-old Abas Ahmed Ibrahim (also known as Maxboy or Moe), 21-year-old Omar Kromah (also known as Nef) and 24-year-old Zakariya Mohamed Abdow (also known as Slickthug or Slimthug) with sexual assault, sexual interference with a child under 16 and invitation to sexual touching.

2014 - RCMP raids Muslim relief group’s offices as Canada declares it a terrorist organization. "International Relief Fund for the Afflicted and Needy Canada" in Mississauga, Ont., as well as a private residence in Montreal. In addition, the CRA said it had found IRFAN-Canada videos at the group’s Mississauga office that “demonize Israel, characterize the Arab-Israeli conflict as a religious war, appeal for all Arab and Muslim nations to join in the struggle against Israel and glorify martyrdom.” Liberal leader Justice Trudeau was recently criticized for agreeing to speak an Islamic conference in Toronto that was sponsored by IRFAN-Canada. The relief group eventually withdrew as a “diamond sponsor” of the event.

2015 - Manitoba Youth: The 16-year-old was charged with posting pro-terrorism comments on social media. He pleaded guilty in 2016 to counselling the commission of an indictable offence for the benefit of a terrorist group. He was given a conditional sentence and probation.

2015 - 21-year-old man Suliman Mohamed who police allege conspired with a pair of identical twins. charged with participating in the activity of a terrorist group and conspiring to participate in a terrorist activity. Police arrested Carlos Larmond at Montreal’s Trudeau Airport before he could get on a plane to travel abroad for what police allege was a plan to participate in terrorist activity. Ashton Larmond was arrested in Ottawa, also on Friday, and subsequently charged with facilitating a terrorist activity, participating in the activity of a terrorist group, and instructing another to carry out an activity for a terrorist group.

2015 - A 17-year-old boy arrested in Beaumont, Alta., has been charged with attempting to leave Canada with the intention of joining Islamic State extremists to commit murder.

2015 - Jahanzeb Malik 33 yr old Pakistani man charged with plotting bomb attacks in downtown Toronto - was deported back to Pakistan.

2015 - Students in the Muslim Student's Association at Algonquin College. Awso Peshdary and Khadar Khalib charged with participating in terrorism and facilitating terrorist activity, alleging financed efforts to send homegrown jihadists Syria to join the ranks of Islamic State fighters.The Mounties said Peshdary – the sixth local terror suspect to face charges in the past three weeks

2015 - Aaron Driver, the Winnipeg man who openly supports the militant Islamic group ISIS on social media, has been released from custody but must wear an electronic monitoring device and faces several other restrictions. Aaron had been in the custody of RCMP in Winnipeg on suspicion of terrorist activity and support for the militant Islamic group ISIS. The 23-year-old is currently not facing any criminal charges, but federal authorities are seeking a peace bond to limit his activities on the suspicion that he may help a terrorist group or activity. Badi Hammadieh, was "pushing young Calgarians to go to Syria" the reporter was told that "this guy was brought out of jail in Syria by the Canadian government."

2016 - Abderrahmane Ghanem, a 30-year-old Canadian from Calgary has been held for nearly a year in the El-Harrach prison in Algeria is charged with being a member of a terrorist group outside Algeria. His trial is set to begin May 2017

2016 - Four Muslim immigrants charged with murder of a man in Calgary. "The accused are not co-operating at all," said Coleman.​ Charged are Mahad Liban Dirir, 31, Abdulrizak Osman Jeyte, 30, Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan, 30, and Ahmed Mohamed Farah, 32. Three of the suspects were arrested at various locations in Calgary, while a fourth was arrested at Edmonton's international airport. Police allege that suspect was about to leave the country to avoid arrest.

2017 - Pamir Hakimzadah, 27, arrested and charged for allegedly leaving the country to join ISIS. He allegedly travelled to Turkey in the fall of 2014 with the intention of joining ISIS and participating in terrorist activity.He was returned to Canada after being detained by Turkish authorities. Case pending.

2017 - Bharat Kumar Gadher, 61 has spent 14 months in jail. Sentenced to time served for sexual offences involving nine girls. He also pleaded guilty to communicating with eight girls under the age of 18 for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from them. I believe that girl was a set-up to ruin Bernier. Harper thought he could sway Bernier to the dark side and Bernier let them know he is his own man. They keep trying to get rid of him. I watched the CPC Leadership election live and that was a total shit show. The election isn't between Trudeau & Scheer…it's going to be between Scheer & Bernier. Trudeau has done too much that he can't return from. Canadians hate this guy.
