Pharisaic doctrine is named for it's patriarchal archetype Pharez (hence, Pharez-ees) - one of two twins (Zarah, being the other) born to Judah, - one of which would GAIN THE ETERNAL RULE of authority in the world.
The story of their birth is a metaphor for THE ENTIRE HISTORY of the struggle between Judaism and Christianity.
As the story goes, Zarah put out his hand (broke the matrix, making him the heir), but then Pharez pushed ahead of him and became the first born. The midwife then cursed Pharez, because Zarah had the right to being the first born heir.
Judaism predates Christianity. But Christianity has always been the intended heir (although by this same plan). So after Christianity became the ruling force in the world (put forth the hand, in recent centuries), Pharez "took away" the rule of leadership (in the entity of the Mideast state).
But now, and going forward from now, the curse of the midwife settles the dispute over the future.
