It's not about astrology, but astronomy and the symbols used to denote time frames.
The time between ages is not necessarily uniform. The "center" is when the sun rises within the house. But the beginning of the age can be calculated by when the first star of the constellation rises on the horizon as the last of the previous leaves.
The interm balance is usually a time of change. Possibly in conflict. Haven't researched that historically in coordination with the computer atronomy programs.
