Different cancers can spread preferentially along slightly different routes. Lymphatic or veins are the usual routes - mets to liver, lungs, brain (and vertebrae) are due to venous spread.
I.e. for thyroid papillary CA usually spreads to lymph nodes, follicular CA via veins…
